Most of us got Islam before we could ask anything about it.

That’s just how it travels. It arrives with a family, a language, a street, a set of habits you never chose. For years, that can be enough. Then someone asks you a question you can’t answer, or you ask it yourself, and you realise you inherited the answer without ever checking it.

That’s the moment this book is for. I grew up Muslim too. I knew what I believed long before I knew how I would explain why I believed it. And when you finally start asking those questions properly, you realise very quickly that Islam has an enormous intellectual tradition behind it. The answers are there. But knowing where to begin is another question.

If you’re eighteen and wondering how we know the Qur’an is from Allah, someone could hand you Ibn Taymiyyah. There is more knowledge in his books than I could ever fit into this one. But most people my age aren’t starting there. They’re opening Google, YouTube or whatever happens to be in their hand when the question hits them at one in the morning.

I wanted to make something that could meet you there and then take you further. Not a replacement for the scholars or the books that came before us. Just somewhere to start. Something that explains the questions clearly enough that you can understand the answer, check it for yourself and know where to go next.

You don’t have to take my word for any of this. I’m talking about Islam, so where something comes from matters. I’ve put the sources beside the claims so you can check them yourself and read further if you want to. If I use an Arabic word you might not know, I explain it. And whenever I quote an aya, there’s a recording of me reciting it too, because I didn’t want the Qur’an to exist in these pages only as an English translation. There’s one QR code near the front that takes you to all of that. Basically, a paper book with a little internet in it.

I wrote this hoping one person I may never meet would read it and come a little closer to Allah. If that person is you, every hour it took was worth it.
